Cultural notes

Brazilian mudança crews (and informal "carretos") are usually paid a flat fee through the company. A tip ("uma gratificação") of R$20–R$50 per worker for a half-day move, or R$50–R$100 per worker for a full-day or heavy job, is widely appreciated. Offering água, refrigerante and almoço during the move is culturally meaningful and routine. Hand cash directly to each worker — not the foreman.

Common mistakes

Tipping only the foreman; the ajudantes (helpers) do the heavy lifting.
