Cultural notes
Building maintenance technicians, AC repair (especially in summer), plumbers and electricians sent through ServiceMarket, Justlife, or building management charge a fixed service fee. Tipping is not built into the price, but AED 20–50 cash for routine work and AED 50–100 for emergency or after-hours calls (Friday/Saturday, late night) is widely appreciated and increasingly expected for personal residential service. Most of these workers are migrants on low wages in extreme heat conditions. Offering water is good practice.
Common mistakes
Treating it like a transactional invoice when the technician went out of their way in 45°C heat.
