Cultural notes
At cantinas, mezcalerías and rooftop bars, 20 pesos a round (or 15% on a tab) keeps drinks coming. Cocktail-program bars in Roma, Condesa and Polanco lean closer to 20%. All-inclusive resort bars expect 20 pesos per drink even when "drinks are free."
Common mistakes
Walking out of an all-inclusive without tipping bartenders all week — they remember and your service slows.
Frequently asked questions
Tab vs. per round?
A tab gets 10–15% at close; per round, a 20-peso bill is the workhorse.
All-inclusive resorts?
Still tip. The drinks are prepaid; the service is not.
